Spooky Witches Brew Halloween Punch - featured image

A spooky, non-alcoholic Halloween punch that balances tart pomegranate, sweet blackberries, and warm cinnamon for a visually stunning and genuinely refreshing drink. Perfect for kids and adults, this easy recipe uses dry ice for a bubbling cauldron effect.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups blackberry juice (such as Knudsen brand, or make your own by blending and straining fresh blackberries)
  • 3 cups pomegranate juice (POM Wonderful works great)
  • 1 cup orange juice (fresh squeezed is best, but store-bought works fine)
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice (about 34 lemons, freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 4 cups cold sparkling water or ginger ale
  • Dry ice (about 1-2 pounds, handled safely)
  • Frozen blackberries or raspberries (for garnish)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional)
  • Gummy worms or plastic spiders (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruit juice base: In your large pitcher, combine the blackberry juice, pomegranate juice, orange juice, and lemon juice. Whisk together until fully blended.
  2. Add the sweetener and spices: Add the honey or maple syrup, ground cinnamon, and ground ginger. Whisk vigorously for about 30 seconds to ensure the honey dissolves completely and the spices are evenly distributed. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  3. Chill the base: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 3 days.
  4. Prepare your garnishes: While the base chills, wash your rosemary sprigs and set them aside. Keep frozen blackberries in the freezer until serving time.
  5. Set up your serving station: Place your punch bowl in a central location. Have your ladle and cups ready nearby.
  6. Combine everything right before serving: Remove the chilled base from the refrigerator and pour it into your punch bowl. Add the frozen blackberries or raspberries. Slowly pour in the sparkling water or ginger ale, stirring gently to combine.
  7. Add the dry ice (safety first!): Using tongs and wearing gloves, carefully add small pieces of dry ice to the punch bowl. Start with about 1/2 pound and add more if needed. Never add more than 1 pound of dry ice to a standard punch bowl.
  8. Garnish and serve: Arrange the rosemary sprigs around the edge of the bowl. Drop a few gummy worms over the side. Serve immediately while the dry ice is still bubbling.

Notes

The dry ice effect lasts about 15-20 minutes. Keep extra dry ice in a cooler and add more every 20 minutes to maintain the fog effect. Never put dry ice directly in someone’s cup or mouth. For a lower-sugar version, use unsweetened sparkling water and reduce honey to 2 tablespoons.
