These creepy, clever, and crazy simple pretzel rods are the perfect Halloween treat. They use just a handful of ingredients, come together in about twenty minutes, and deliver an irresistible salty-sweet crunch that even skeptics can’t resist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12–15 pretzel rods
  • 1 cup (175g) white chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 30–45 sliced almonds
  • Green gel food coloring
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • Optional: red sanding sugar or red gel icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Station: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Arrange pretzel rods on a clean work surface. Have sliced almonds ready in a small bowl.
  2. Melt the White Chocolate: Place white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals on 50% power, stirring well after each interval, until smooth and glossy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Color and Flavor the Chocolate: Stir in green gel food coloring (start with a tiny dab, add more for a pale, sickly green). Then stir in almond extract.
  4. Assemble the Fingers: Coat about two-thirds of each pretzel rod with the green chocolate using a spoon or by dipping. Let excess drip off, then place on prepared baking sheet.
  5. Add the Fingernail and Details: While chocolate is still wet, press one sliced almond onto the tip of each pretzel, pointed end extending past the end. Use a toothpick to create 3-4 horizontal lines along the top half for knuckles.
  6. Set the Chocolate: Refrigerate the baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until chocolate is completely firm.
  7. Add Finishing Touches (Optional): Add a small red dot or drip at the base of the almond using red gel icing or melted red candy melts for a bloody cuticle effect.

Notes

Don’t overheat the white chocolate; use 50% power in the microwave. Work in small batches if making a large quantity. For best crunch, serve within 24 hours. Store in an airtight container at room temperature, not in the fridge.
