A simple and foolproof honey glazed ham recipe featuring a tangy-sweet brown sugar pineapple glaze that caramelizes beautifully, keeping the ham tender and juicy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 to 7 pounds bone-in fully cooked ham (spiral-cut preferred)
  • ½ cup honey (120 ml)
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar (150 g)
  • ⅓ cup pineapple juice (80 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (30 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • Optional garnish: pineapple rings or maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Remove any packaging and place the ham cut-side down on a rack inside your roasting pan. Score the surface in a diamond pattern about 1/8-inch deep.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine honey, brown sugar, pineapple juice, Dijon mustard, ground cloves, and ground cinnamon. Warm over medium heat, stirring frequently until sugar dissolves and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat.
  4. Brush about one-third of the glaze evenly over the ham’s surface. Reserve the rest for basting during baking.
  5. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes to 1 hour, basting with the glaze every 15 minutes. Tent loosely with foil if glaze starts to get too dark.
  6. Check internal temperature; it should reach about 140°F (60°C).
  7. In the last 15 minutes, optionally arrange pineapple rings or maraschino cherries on top, securing with toothpicks if needed, and brush with remaining glaze.
  8. Remove from oven and let ham rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

If glaze thickens too much while basting, thin with pineapple juice or water. Tent ham with foil if glaze browns too quickly. Rest ham after baking for better texture and easier carving. Glaze can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated. For a spicy twist, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to glaze. Maple syrup can substitute honey for a different sweetness. Slow cooking is an alternative method but won’t caramelize glaze as well.
