A fun and easy deviled eggs recipe inspired by BB-8 from Star Wars, perfect for themed parties and quick to prepare with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large hard-boiled eggs, peeled
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Orange food coloring or edible marker
  • Black edible food marker or fine-tipped brush with black food gel
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon finely chopped pickle relish
  • Optional: finely chopped chives or fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place 12 large eggs in a single layer in a medium saucepan and cover with cold water by about an inch. Bring to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Once boiling, cover the pan, remove from heat, and let sit for 12 minutes.
  3. Drain the hot water and transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water for 5 minutes to stop cooking and make peeling easier.
  4. Gently peel each egg, being careful not to break the whites.
  5. Slice each egg in half lengthwise and carefully remove yolks into a mixing bowl. Mash the yolks with a fork until crumbly but not dry.
  6. Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, white vinegar, salt, black pepper, and paprika to the yolks. Mix until smooth and creamy. Stir in pickle relish if using.
  7. Using a spoon or piping bag, fill each egg white half with the yolk mixture, forming a slightly rounded mound.
  8. Decorate each egg half with orange edible marker to draw circular rings representing BB-8’s panels. Use black edible marker or fine brush with black food gel to add dots and lines for eyes and panel details.
  9. Refrigerate the eggs for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and filling firm up.
  10. Just before serving, sprinkle with finely chopped chives or fresh herbs.

Notes

Use eggs about a week old for easier peeling. Use the off-heat steeping method to avoid overcooked yolks. Don’t overmix the filling to keep texture interesting. Decorate just before serving to prevent smearing. Practice BB-8 design on paper first if desired. To speed peeling, crack eggs gently all over and roll before peeling. Add a teaspoon or two of milk or pickle juice if filling is too thick.
