A festive and healthy Halloween veggie platter arranged like a spiderweb, served with a creamy homemade ranch dip. Perfect for parties and picky eaters.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup cauliflower florets
  • 3–4 large carrots, peeled and cut into thin sticks
  • 3–4 celery stalks, cut into 3-inch sticks
  • 1 large cucumber, sliced into rounds or half-moons
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, whole or halved
  • 1 red or yellow bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 cup snow peas or snap peas
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or 2%)
  • 2 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip first. In a small mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, buttermilk, fresh dill, chives, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Whisk until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning. Cover and refrigerate while you prep the veggies.
  2. Wash and dry all vegetables thoroughly. Cut broccoli and cauliflower into small florets (about the size of a quarter). Cut carrots and celery into thin sticks, about 3 inches long. Slice cucumber into rounds. Halve cherry tomatoes if large. Cut bell pepper into thin strips. Snap ends off snow peas.
  3. Place the small bowl of ranch dip in the center of a large round platter or cutting board. This is the ‘spider body.’
  4. Arrange broccoli florets in a ring around the dip bowl, leaving small gaps to create the web lines. Use carrot sticks to create radial lines from the dip bowl out to the edge of the platter, like spokes on a wheel.
  5. Fill each wedge between the carrot spokes with a different vegetable (e.g., cauliflower, cucumber rounds, bell pepper strips, etc.) to create a colorful web.
  6. Add the spider: Use a small black olive or large raisin for the spider body, placed on top of the dip. Use thin strips of black olive or chive for legs, arranging them to look like they are crawling out of the dip. Alternatively, use a small plastic spider ring.
  7. Around the outer edge of the platter, place cherry tomatoes and snow peas as a border.
  8. Cover the platter with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to keep veggies crisp and dip set.

Notes

For best results, dry veggies thoroughly after washing to prevent sogginess. The dip can be made a day ahead for deeper flavor. If using dairy-free yogurt, the dip may be slightly sweeter. For a vegan version, use dairy-free yogurt and buttermilk substitute. To keep dip cold during serving, nest the bowl in a small bowl of ice.
