A sticky, fruity, and slightly boozy BBQ sauce blending fresh peaches and bourbon for a perfect glaze on ribs and chicken. This sauce offers a balance of sweetness, smoky depth, and tangy brightness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe peaches, peeled and diced (or ½ cup sweet peach preserves)
  • ½ cup bourbon whiskey (120 ml)
  • 1 cup ketchup (240 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (30 ml)
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar (50 g)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (15 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice 2 large ripe peaches into small chunks. (10 minutes)
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced peaches and cook gently for about 5 minutes until softened and fragrant, stirring occasionally.
  3. Pour ½ cup bourbon into the pan with the peaches. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring to deglaze the pan and reduce the alcohol bite.
  4. Transfer the peach-bourbon mixture into a medium saucepan. Add 1 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, ¼ cup packed brown sugar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes if using.
  5. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir well to combine. Let the sauce simmer gently for 15–20 minutes, uncovered, stirring occasionally until thickened and glossy.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat. Using an immersion blender, puree the sauce until smooth and velvety. Alternatively, carefully transfer to a regular blender in batches. (5 minutes)
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness, acidity, salt, and pepper as desired.
  8. Let the sauce cool to room temperature before storing in a clean jar or airtight container. Keeps in the fridge up to 2 weeks.

Notes

Simmer gently on medium-low heat and stir often to prevent burning. Use ripe peaches for best flavor. Adjust sweetness and acidity after blending. Sauce thickens as it cools; stir in water or apple juice if too thick. Sauce tastes better after resting a day. Substitute bourbon with apple juice or vanilla extract for alcohol-free version. Use gluten-free Worcestershire or tamari for gluten-free diet.
