  • 4 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 4–5 limes)
  • Neon green or regular green food coloring (gel preferred)
  • 1 quart lime sherbet (optional, but recommended)
  • Ice cubes (optional, if not using sherbet)
  • Gummy worms or spiders (for garnish)
  • Dry ice (optional, for smoky effect)

Instructions

  1. Chill the lemon-lime soda and pineapple juice in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.
  2. Roll the limes on the counter, cut them in half, and juice them until you have 1/2 cup. Strain out any seeds.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the green food coloring with about 1/4 cup of the pineapple juice until the color is completely dissolved and uniform.
  4. In a large punch bowl or pitcher, combine the chilled pineapple juice, lime juice, and the colored pineapple juice mixture. Stir gently.
  5. Slowly pour the lemon-lime soda down the side of the bowl to preserve carbonation. Stir very gently.
  6. Just before serving, scoop large spoonfuls of lime sherbet into the punch. Let it float on top and melt slowly.
  7. Garnish with gummy worms or spiders. If using dry ice, add it with tongs (never with bare hands). Serve immediately in clear cups.

Notes

For the best frothy top, freeze the sherbet for 30 minutes before scooping. Start with 2-3 drops of food coloring and add more as needed. Do not add the sherbet too early; add it just before serving. For an adult version, add 1-2 cups of vodka, white rum, or coconut rum. To reduce sugar, substitute half the soda with plain sparkling water.
