This Easy No-Bake Dirt Cup Pudding with Gummy Worms is a fun, nostalgic dessert that combines silky chocolate pudding, a tangy cream cheese layer, crunchy Oreo ‘dirt,’ and playful gummy worms. It’s a crowd-pleaser that requires zero baking and comes together in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3.9 oz) box instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (14.3 oz) package Oreo cookies
  • 1 cup gummy worms
  • Optional: 1/2 cup additional frozen whipped topping for topping

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos. Place the whole Oreos (filling and all) in a large zip-top bag. Seal it, then use a rolling pin to crush them into fine crumbs. Alternatively, pulse them in a food processor until you get a sandy texture. You want about 2 cups of crumbs. Set aside.
  2. Make the pudding. In a large bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and 2 cups of cold milk. Whisk for about 2 minutes until it starts to thicken. It will be loose at first, then firm up as it sits. Let it rest for 5 minutes so it sets slightly.
  3. Prepare the cream cheese layer. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth. If you’re using a hand mixer, this takes about a minute. Fold in the 1/2 cup of thawed whipped topping gently until everything is combined and fluffy.
  4. Start layering. Grab your cups or glasses. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the crushed Oreos into the bottom of each cup. This is your first ‘dirt’ layer. Press it down lightly with the back of a spoon.
  5. Add the cream cheese layer. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture over the Oreo layer. Spread it gently to the edges of the cup.
  6. Add the pudding. Spoon or pour the chocolate pudding over the cream cheese layer, filling each cup about three-quarters full. Leave a little room at the top for the final dirt layer and gummy worms.
  7. Top with dirt. Sprinkle a generous layer of crushed Oreos over the pudding. Use about 2 to 3 tablespoons per cup, covering the surface completely.
  8. Add the gummy worms. Gently poke 2 to 3 gummy worms into the top of each cup so they look like they’re crawling out of the dirt. Leave part of them sticking out.
  9. Chill. Place the cups in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or up to overnight.
  10. Serve cold. Right before serving, you can add a few more gummy worms on top for extra visual impact. Serve straight from the fridge.

Notes

Don’t skip the cream cheese layer; it adds a tangy richness that balances the sweetness. Let the pudding set for 5 minutes before layering to prevent it from mixing with the cream cheese. Crush Oreos finely but not to dust for the best ‘dirt’ texture. Use cold milk for the pudding to ensure proper setting. Make ahead of time for best flavor development. Add gummy worms just before serving to prevent them from getting too soft.
