Fun and festive Halloween sliders made with frozen meatballs, marinara, provolone cheese, and Hawaiian sweet rolls, wrapped to look like mummies. Ready in under 30 minutes, they are a crowd-pleasing appetizer that tastes as good as it looks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12 count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 24 frozen Italian-style meatballs (about 1.5 pounds)
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 6 slices provolone cheese, halved
  • 24 candy eyes
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Let frozen meatballs sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a medium skillet over medium heat, combine the frozen meatballs and marinara sauce. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the meatballs are heated through and the sauce is bubbling.
  3. Without separating the individual rolls, slice the entire block of Hawaiian sweet rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  4. Arrange the heated meatballs evenly over the bottom layer of rolls. Spoon any remaining marinara from the skillet over the meatballs.
  5. Place half a slice of provolone cheese on top of each meatball.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife or kitchen shears, cut the top layer of rolls into strips about 1/2-inch wide.
  7. Carefully lift each strip and place it over the meatballs and cheese, leaving small gaps so you can see the ‘mummy’ underneath.
  8. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, dried parsley, and a pinch of salt. Brush this mixture generously over the top of the roll strips.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes. Gently press two candy eyes onto each mummy slider.
  11. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not over-sauce the sliders to avoid sogginess. Cut the strips while the rolls are still connected for easier handling. Use room temperature butter for even brushing. Watch the oven time as Hawaiian rolls can burn quickly. Let the sliders rest for 2-3 minutes before serving to allow the cheese to set.
