Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ounces (113g) cheddar cheese, block
  • 2 ounces (57g) brie or camembert, cut into wedges
  • 2 ounces (57g) goat cheese log (optional)
  • 4 ounces (113g) salami or prosciutto
  • 2 ounces (57g) pepperoni
  • 1 cup (about 30) mini pretzels
  • 1 cup (about 20) crackers (butter or water crackers)
  • 8–10 thin baguette slices, toasted or fresh
  • ¼ cup (about 12) black olives
  • ½ cup red grapes or blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds (pepitas)
  • Edible googly eyes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or hot honey
  • 2 tablespoons whole-grain mustard or fig jam

Instructions

  1. Prep the Cheese (5 minutes): Use Halloween cookie cutters to press shapes out of the cheddar block. For brie, cut into 4 wedges. For goat cheese, slice the log into 6-8 rounds. Set aside.
  2. Create the Meat Roses (3 minutes): Overlap 4-5 slices of salami in a straight line, roll up tightly, then gently pull outer layers apart to form a rose. Place one or two roses on each board.
  3. Prepare the Spooky Elements (5 minutes): Cut black olives in half lengthwise. Place a small dollop of cream cheese or goat cheese on the cut side, then press two edible googly eyes onto the cheese. Arrange pepperoni slices in small piles to look like spider clusters. Halve grapes or blackberries to look like eyeballs.
  4. Arrange the Board (5 minutes): Place small bowls for honey and mustard on the board. Arrange cheese shapes in one corner, meat roses next to them. Fill gaps with crackers, pretzels, and baguette slices. Scatter spider olives, pepperoni clusters, and fruit eyeballs around. Sprinkle pumpkin seeds over everything.
  5. Add the Finishing Touches (2 minutes): Drizzle honey over brie or goat cheese. Place fig jam next to cheddar shapes. Stick Halloween-themed toothpicks into meat roses or olives.
  6. Serve Immediately: Best enjoyed right away. If prepping ahead, assemble components up to 2 hours in advance but add crackers and pretzels just before serving. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate; let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use room-temperature cheese for best flavor. For firmer cheese shapes, freeze cheddar for 5 minutes before cutting. Prep components up to a day in advance; assemble just before serving. For a vegan version, use dairy-free cheese and crackers, and swap honey for agave.
