These turkey taco lettuce wraps are a quick, light, and healthy low-carb meal featuring a spicy turkey filling and creamy avocado crema, perfect for busy weeknights.

  • 1 lb ground turkey (lean, around 93/7)
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt or dairy-free coconut yogurt
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 head butter lettuce or Bibb lettuce
  • Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, chopped cilantro, sliced jalapeños, shredded cheese, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic. Rinse and pat dry the lettuce leaves. Slice any optional toppings.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until translucent.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds without burning.
  4. Add ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for 6-8 minutes until no longer pink and slightly browned.
  5. Sprinkle chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper over the turkey. Stir well and cook for another 2-3 minutes until spices bloom and mixture thickens.
  6. In a bowl, combine avocado, Greek yogurt, lime juice, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt. Blend with an immersion blender or mash with a fork until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  7. Lay out lettuce leaves and spoon turkey mixture onto each. Drizzle with avocado crema and add optional toppings.
  8. Serve immediately to keep lettuce crisp and filling warm.

Notes

If turkey mixture is watery, cook longer to evaporate excess moisture. Use ripe but firm avocados for best crema texture. Butter or Bibb lettuce preferred for wraps. Assemble and serve immediately for best texture. Leftover turkey can be refrigerated up to 3 days; keep avocado crema separate and stir before serving.
