These apple-shaped cinnamon roll ups are a quick, simple, and fun twist on traditional cinnamon rolls, perfect for cozy breakfasts or brunches. They feature soft, buttery dough with a balanced cinnamon-sugar filling and a charming apple shape.

  • 1 sheet refrigerated crescent roll dough (about 8 oz / 227 g)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • Whole cloves or small pecan halves (for the “stem”)
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting after baking

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons brown sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon until combined.
  3. Unroll the refrigerated crescent dough sheet and lay it flat on a clean surface.
  4. Spread 1 tablespoon softened butter evenly over the dough using a pastry brush or spoon.
  5. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
  6. Cut the dough into 8 even strips, about 1.5 inches (4 cm) wide.
  7. Roll each strip tightly from one end and gently pinch to form a slight apple shape, wider in the middle and narrower at the ends.
  8. Insert a whole clove or pecan half at the top center of each roll to mimic an apple stem.
  9. Brush the outside of each roll lightly with melted butter for a golden, glossy finish.
  10. Place the rolls on the prepared baking sheet about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  12. Let the rolls cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack.
  13. Optionally dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Watch the rolls closely during the last few minutes to avoid burning; tent with foil if edges brown too quickly. Use softened butter inside and melted butter outside for best flavor and texture. Fresh cinnamon improves flavor. Rolls can be prepared ahead and refrigerated or frozen before baking. Reheat in oven for best texture; avoid microwaving.
