This spooky, velvety black punch is made with blackberries, lemon, and black grape juice for a dramatic Halloween drink that takes just 5 minutes to prepare. It’s a crowd-pleaser that looks like liquid midnight and tastes like a fancy mocktail.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2–3 tablespoons honey or granulated sugar
  • 1 cup chilled ginger ale or lemon-lime soda
  • 1 cup chilled black grape juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: ½ cup chilled coconut cream
  • Optional garnishes: fresh blackberries, lemon slices, or edible glitter

Instructions

  1. Add the blackberries, cold water, lemon juice, and honey (or sugar) to your blender. Blend on high for about 30 seconds, until the mixture is completely smooth and dark purple.
  2. Place your fine-mesh strainer over a large bowl or directly over your pitcher. Pour the blended blackberry mixture through the strainer, using a spoon to gently press the liquid through. Scrape the bottom of the strainer to get every last drop.
  3. If you have time, chill the strained blackberry base in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.
  4. When ready to serve, add the chilled black grape juice and coconut cream (if using) to the strained blackberry base. Stir gently until well combined.
  5. Just before serving, pour in the chilled ginger ale or lemon-lime soda. Stir very gently to keep the bubbles.
  6. Fill serving glasses or punch cups with ice cubes, then pour the punch over the ice. Garnish with fresh blackberries, lemon slices, or edible glitter if desired.

Notes

The strainer is non-negotiable for a smooth, velvety texture. Prepare the blackberry base up to 2 days in advance and add soda just before serving. For a truly black color, use black grape juice and don’t skimp on blackberries. Add vodka or dark rum for an adult version.
