A creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip served in a crusty bread bowl and topped with a tangy blue cheese drizzle. Perfect for casual get-togethers and quick, comforting snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded (rotisserie chicken works great)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (Hellmann’s recommended)
  • 3/4 cup buffalo wing sauce (Frank’s RedHot recommended)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 large round bread loaf (sourdough or boule style)
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese dressing
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 1 tbsp milk (optional, to thin blue cheese drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Using a serrated knife, cut a circle about 2 inches from the edge of the bread loaf top. Remove the top and hollow out the inside, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell. Reserve the bread chunks for dipping.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. Beat until smooth and creamy, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add buffalo wing sauce and mix well.
  5. Stir in shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and green onions if using. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Spoon the buffalo chicken dip mixture into the hollowed bread bowl, packing gently but leaving some room at the top.
  7. Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden on top.
  8. While baking, whisk together blue cheese dressing, crumbled blue cheese, and milk (if needed) until pourable but thick.
  9. Remove the bread bowl from the oven and drizzle the blue cheese mixture generously over the top.
  10. Serve immediately with reserved bread chunks and optional veggies or chips.

Notes

Softening the cream cheese properly ensures a silky smooth dip. Hollow the bread bowl with about 1-inch thick walls to prevent sogginess. Bake until bubbly and lightly golden but avoid overbaking to prevent dryness. Blue cheese drizzle adds a tangy finish but use sparingly if you prefer milder flavor. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated at 325°F for 10-15 minutes.
