A creamy, cheesy taco dip with a festive spiderweb design and black bean spiders, perfect for Halloween parties or cozy nights in. This crowd-pleasing appetizer comes together in under 20 minutes with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
  • 1 can (15 oz) refried beans
  • 1 can (4 oz) diced green chiles, drained
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (for spiderweb)
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (for spider legs)
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, beat softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add 1 cup sour cream and taco seasoning; mix until well combined.
  3. Spread refried beans evenly across the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. Carefully spread the cream cheese mixture over the beans, creating distinct layers.
  5. Sprinkle drained green chiles and sliced black olives evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  6. Sprinkle shredded Mexican blend cheese evenly over the top.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Optionally broil 1-2 minutes for a browner top.
  8. While dip bakes, place 1/2 cup sour cream in a small zip-top bag and snip a tiny corner off. When dip comes out of oven, pipe a spiral of sour cream from center outward. Use a toothpick to drag lines from center to edge, creating a web pattern.
  9. For each spider, place a black bean on the dip and press four olive slices on each side for legs. Make 3-4 spiders.
  10. Sprinkle chopped green onions over top. Serve immediately with tortilla chips.

Notes

Softening cream cheese is essential for a smooth texture. For the spiderweb, use a tiny hole in the piping bag and wipe the toothpick clean between each line. Let dip rest 5 minutes before serving to set layers. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance; bake straight from fridge, adding 5-7 minutes.
