These easy cookie bars turn leftover Halloween candy into a gooey, crowd-pleasing dessert. Ready in under an hour with simple ingredients, they’re perfect for post-Halloween parties or cozy nights in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt, plus extra for sprinkling
  • 2 cups (about 300g) assorted leftover Halloween candy, roughly chopped
  • ½ cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Flaky sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a 2-inch overhang on the long sides. Lightly grease the parchment.
  2. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals. Let cool for 2 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla extract; whisk vigorously until pale, thick, and glossy (about 1 minute).
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Chop the Halloween candy into roughly ½-inch pieces.
  8. Fold the chopped candy and chocolate chips into the dough until evenly distributed.
  9. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  10. Bake for 22-26 minutes, until edges are golden and center is set but still soft. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 30 minutes, then lift out and cool completely.
  11. Slice into 24 squares (6×4 rows). Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For best results, use chocolate-based candies (Snickers, Twix, Kit Kat, Reese’s). Avoid hard-shell candies. Let bars cool completely before slicing to prevent candy from dragging. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freeze individual bars for up to 3 months.
