A warm, spiced pumpkin chai latte made at home with simple ingredients. Quick, easy, and perfect for cozy fall mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 black tea bags (English Breakfast or chai blend)
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 cup milk (whole milk or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp ginger, pinch nutmeg, pinch cloves)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
  • 1 pinch black pepper (freshly ground)
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup water to a boil. Remove from heat, add tea bags, and steep for 4-5 minutes. Do not over-steep.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together pumpkin puree with 1 tablespoon hot milk (microwaved 15 seconds) to prevent clumping. Add brown sugar, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, and black pepper. Stir into a smooth paste.
  3. Remove tea bags from saucepan (gently squeeze). Add remaining 1 cup milk and cinnamon stick (if using). Heat over medium-low until steaming (about 3-4 minutes), not boiling.
  4. Whisk pumpkin paste into warm milk mixture until fully incorporated and smooth (about 1 minute).
  5. Froth the mixture using a milk frother, French press, or vigorous whisking for 30 seconds.
  6. Pour into a mug. Top with whipped cream (if using) and sprinkle with pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon.

Notes

For an iced version, let the tea and milk mixture cool to room temperature, then pour over ice. The pumpkin flavor is just as amazing cold. Adjust sweetness to taste. A tiny pinch of black pepper enhances the spices without making it spicy.
