Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups cauliflower florets
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cup baby carrots
  • 3–4 ribs celery, cut into 3-inch lengths
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1 orange bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1 large cucumber, sliced into rounds or half-moons
  • 1 cup pretzel sticks
  • 1/2 cup black olives, pitted
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch dressing mix
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Ranch Dip: In a small bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, and ranch dressing mix. Stir until smooth. If using chives, fold them in. Refrigerate for 10 minutes to let flavors meld.
  2. Prep Your Vegetables: Wash and dry all vegetables thoroughly. Cut broccoli and cauliflower into bite-sized florets. Slice bell peppers into thin, 2-inch long strips. Cut celery and cucumber into similar-sized pieces. Leave baby carrots and cherry tomatoes whole.
  3. Create the Web’s Spokes: Place a large round platter on the counter. Arrange baby carrots and celery sticks like spokes on a wheel, radiating out from the center. Aim for 6-8 spokes total.
  4. Build the Outer Rings: Fill in the gaps between the spokes to create the web. Start with the largest vegetables (broccoli and cauliflower) in a ring about 2 inches from the center. Move outward, creating concentric circles with the remaining veggies. Use bell pepper strips and cucumber slices to create a woven look. Cover the entire platter, leaving the center empty for the spider dip.
  5. Add the Spider Legs: Place 4 pretzel sticks on each side of the empty center, pointing outward. Gently press them into the surrounding vegetables.
  6. Pipe the Spider Dip: Spoon the ranch dip into a piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip a small corner off the tip. In the center of the platter, pipe a large, round blob for the spider’s body, then a smaller blob next to it for the head.
  7. Create the Spider Eyes: Cut one black olive in half lengthwise. Place one half on the spider’s head for the body. For the eyes, cut small slits in smaller olive pieces or use small pieces of black olive. Use a dab of dip to help them stick.
  8. Final Touches: Fill any empty spots with extra cherry tomatoes or broccoli florets. Sprinkle extra pretzel sticks around the edge. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

Dry vegetables thoroughly to prevent the dip from sliding. Leave a 3-4 inch empty circle in the center for the spider dip. For a perfect circle, place a small bowl upside down in the center while arranging vegetables. Prep vegetables and dip a day in advance for easy assembly. If dip is too thick, add a tablespoon of milk; if too thin, add more sour cream or mayonnaise.
