Adorable mummy-shaped pigs in a blanket made with crescent roll dough and cocktail sausages, served with a homemade spicy mustard dipping sauce. Perfect for Halloween parties, school events, or any fun snack time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 cocktail sausages or small hot dogs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Candy eyes or mustard dots for the mummy faces
  • 1/2 cup yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board. If using perforated triangle dough, gently press the seams together to form a single sheet.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into thin strips, about 6 to 8 strips, each about 1/2-inch wide.
  4. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a cocktail sausage, starting at one end and working your way to the other. Leave a small gap near the top for the face. Place the wrapped sausage on the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down. Repeat with remaining sausages and dough strips.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water until well combined.
  6. Using a pastry brush, gently brush the tops of each wrapped mummy with the egg wash.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
  8. While the mummies bake, make the spicy mustard: In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the yellow mustard, honey, hot sauce, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Whisk continuously until smooth and heated through, about 2 to 3 minutes. Alternatively, combine in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until warm.
  9. Once the mummies are out of the oven and slightly cooled, add the eyes: press candy eyes gently into the dough at the gap, or use a toothpick to place small dots of mustard or ketchup.
  10. Serve immediately with the spicy mustard for dipping.

Notes

Let the crescent roll dough sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes before working with it to prevent cracking. For a cheesy version, cut a slit in the sausage and stuff with a thin strip of cheddar cheese before wrapping. The spicy mustard can be made up to a week in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
