A quick and easy side dish featuring halved Brussels sprouts sautéed with crispy bacon and a sweet honey glaze, delivering a perfect blend of sweet, savory, and smoky flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450 g) Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 6 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil, preferably extra virgin
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry the Brussels sprouts. Trim off the tough ends, then slice them in half lengthwise.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon pieces and cook until crispy, about 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.
  3. In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add olive oil if needed and minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Add the halved Brussels sprouts cut-side down. Cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes to get a golden crust, then stir and cook another 4-5 minutes until tender but not mushy.
  5. Drizzle honey and apple cider vinegar over the sprouts. Stir well to coat evenly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Return the crispy bacon to the pan and toss gently to combine. Cook for another minute until the glaze thickens slightly and sticks to the sprouts.
  7. Transfer to a serving dish and serve warm.

Notes

If Brussels sprouts brown too quickly, lower the heat to balance caramelization and tenderness. Do not overcrowd the pan to avoid steaming. Use bacon fat for added flavor. Add honey glaze at the end to prevent burning. For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and add toasted nuts and smoked paprika.
