A quick and easy iced espresso drink sweetened with brown sugar and shaken to create a frothy, velvety texture. Perfect for warm weather and customizable with milk or milk alternatives.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (about 2 oz / 60 ml) freshly brewed espresso (medium-dark roast recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar (dark brown sugar preferred)
  • Ice cubes (about 1 cup / 240 ml)
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) milk or milk alternative (optional, whole milk, oat, or almond milk)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew 2 shots (2 oz / 60 ml) of fresh espresso using an espresso machine or moka pot.
  2. While the espresso is still hot, stir in 2 tablespoons of packed brown sugar until fully dissolved.
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker or mason jar halfway with ice (about 1 cup / 240 ml). Pour the sweetened espresso over the ice.
  4. Add ¼ cup (60 ml) of milk or milk alternative if desired, plus ½ teaspoon vanilla extract if using.
  5. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until frothy and chilled.
  6. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes, then strain or pour the shaken espresso mixture over the ice.
  7. Serve immediately with a reusable straw or spoon for stirring.

Notes

If espresso isn’t hot enough to dissolve brown sugar, microwave for 10 seconds before adding sugar. Shake vigorously for best frothy texture. Use fresh, solid ice cubes to avoid dilution. Adjust brown sugar to taste. Can substitute maple syrup or honey for brown sugar with flavor changes. Store sweetened espresso (without ice) refrigerated up to 24 hours; shake before serving.
