A quick and easy recipe for crispy, spicy shrimp made in the air fryer with a creamy, tangy bang bang sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights, potlucks, or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined (tail-on for extra crunch)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray or a little oil for air fryer basket
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and lime juice until smooth. Set aside in the fridge to chill.
  2. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. In one shallow bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. In a second bowl, beat the egg. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Dip each shrimp first into the flour mixture, shaking off excess, then into the beaten egg, and finally coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs. Place coated shrimp on a plate.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F and let it heat for about 3 minutes.
  6. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange shrimp in a single layer without overcrowding. Cook for 4-5 minutes, flip, and cook another 4-5 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Place cooked shrimp in a bowl, drizzle with the bang bang sauce, and gently toss to coat evenly.
  8. Serve immediately with a wedge of lime and optional green onions or sesame seeds.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to avoid steaming the shrimp. Preheat the air fryer for best crispiness. Adjust sriracha to control heat level. For gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with almond or rice flour and use gluten-free panko. For dairy-free, use vegan mayonnaise. Reheat leftovers in air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes to maintain crispiness.
